Henry Litchfield

Head of Leader Management

In a nutshell what does your job entail?

My role is to oversee the recruitment, training and ongoing management of all Expedition Leaders within the UK, Europe, South Africa and the USA. More recently my focus has been on increasing the provision of soft skills training for our Expedition Leaders.

Name three things in life that make you smile (work and personal)?

Work:

  • My team!
  • Finding a replacement leader last minute
  • Spending time either in the UK or overseas with a group of young people

Personal:

  • Completing a triathlon
  • My Beagle Springer cross dog
  • Spending time with my friends, most of whom are either current or ex World Challenge staff

Why do you think TUI/World Challenge is ‘good value’ to you?
The initial stages of my World Challenge career have really set me up, the business gives you autonomy and allows you the freedom as well as access to additional responsibilities. The first couple of years were certainly a steep learning curve and having access to the TUI L&D offering has helped me gain perspective and new skills. In the last 12 months I have been fortunate enough to be put on the TUI navigator programme, we received 3 days of comprehensive training along with a stretch project which has enabled me to push myself and learn new skills.

I have also been incredibly lucky as part of my role to travel as an Expedition Leader to some far flung destinations, not least Mongolia and China to lead a group of young people on the Mongolian steppes. World Challenge and TUI have certainly supported my development immensely and given me access to a network of incredibly inspirational people.
