Royal Caribbean announce their next Godmother…and she is from Thomson!
Following a nationwide hunt, Royal Caribbean has announced that Thomson agent, Emma Wilby from our Elgin store, has been chosen as Godmother for its latest ship Anthem of the Seas. Not only this, we also had two other Thomson agents make it to the final…congratulations to Katie Briggs from Redcar and Michaela Masterton from HDS Liverpool Lord Street.
The Godmother role is a lifetime title; offering good luck and divine protection over the vessel and all that sail aboard. Traditionally, Godmothers have celebrity status or even royal connections; however for the launch of Anthem of the Seas, Royal Caribbean has bucked this trend by choosing a British travel agent to take on the responsibility.
As part of her Godmother duties, Emma will officially christen Anthem of the Seas, and perform a special song for more than 1,300 invited special guests at the ship’s glamorous inaugural ceremony on 20th April.
Melanie Hood, RSM – Aberdeen Region, has said “Myself, her team and her manager, Sandra, are so proud of her achievement! Well done Emma – you have made Team Aberdeen smile.”
Commenting on winning the competition, Emma said: “I still can’t believe I won. I am really honoured to have been chosen. I am hugely excited to be taking on the role of Godmother for Anthem of the Seas – it will be incredible to sing in front of all these people and a real honour to give the ship the best send off possible.”
Part of the experience will be to help Emma prepare for inaugural day. For this Craig Yates, Team Captain from British choir group Only Boys Aloud, will be Emma’s vocal coach, and Royal Caribbean is treating her to a full makeover.
Congratulations Emma, we wish you the best of luck in your Godmother role.
