Meet Jacob – Finance Graduate Programme
What did you study at Uni?
I studied biochemistry at Aberystwyth University.
What interested you about the scheme and why did you apply?
I have a parent that works in the travel industry so I’ve always had an interest in travel and when I noticed TUI were offering a scheme that allowed me to gain professional accreditation alongside full time employment this really appealed to me. As the application process moved on I noticed the company really treated me as an individual and not a number which solidified in my mind that if a job offer came around it would be a no brainer as whether or not accept or not.
What are you looking forward to doing?
Now I’m more settled in my role I’m looking forward to the challenge of managing my CIMA studies whilst maintaining a high standard of work in my role in airline engineering. Alongside this getting to know more about how the business works and networking with others around the business is something I’m greatly looking forward to.
Do you have any top tips for anyone thinking of applying for the scheme?
Definitely doing your research is a must, however I would encourage candidates to think a little bit outside of the box with their answers to questions as it’s those who discuss unique events or scenarios that tend to stand out more.
What is your favourite holiday destination?
My favourite holiday destination is without a doubt Argentina. I spent a month in the country visiting sites such as Iguazu Falls and trekking through parts of the Andes. I found it to be such a diverse country in terms of both wealth and culture, and the food is to die for!
What makes you smile?
In the work place – probably when you’ve been looking for a missing value or the numbers don’t quite up and you’ve managed to find the problem. That’s a real buzz for me when I fix something.
Outside of work – Sport is a big thing for me, I love to play and watch and with the company having both football and cricket teams this allows me to play on a regular basis.
