Meet Benjamin, Travel Product Manager

What does your job involve?

As a Product Manager I am responsible for setting the destination strategy for Turkey in the TUI UK programme as well as managing the daily commercial performance.  Day to day I work closely with the purchasing team and analyse commercial proposals received from hoteliers to make decisions on which properties we should feature. I also work closely with the content and marketing teams to ensure that we are promoting our hotels and concepts, not to just existing TUI customers, but reaching a new audience too.  Whilst we sit in the commercial function, the product team represent the voice of the customer in the business, so we review the customer feedback that we receive to influence how we shape our destination and continue to offer holidays that our customers love.

Why did you choose to work for TUI?

I have always had a passion for travel and knew that it was an industry I wanted to work in.  As the UK’s largest travel company TUI is a great place to start but also presents huge opportunities to grow a career in a successful global business.  I have watched many colleagues move into roles overseas as well the UK head office, and regardless of where we are based there are significant opportunities to travel both to the holiday destinations and our source market countries.   At TUI the people are passionate about holidays but also fun to work with, and I think that is quite a unique combination for such a large business.

What’s the best thing about your team?

Everyone who works in the team has a real passion for not only the role and travel, but specifically the destinations that they manage. This really shines through in the work that we produce as we try to make the best decisions for both the business and the customer.

What skills & experience have you developed whilst working in Product?

One of the great things about working in Product is that you get to work with most departments from across the business, allowing me to develop my communication skills and how to flex these based on the target audience.

What is your favourite holiday destination?

Cancun, Mexico – I have been 3 times, not only are all the hotels to such a high standard but there is something for everyone, from the Mayan Ruins of Chichen Itza for some culture or a trip to Coco Bongos in the hotel zone for a night out!

What motivates and inspires you in your role?

I love the fact that I get to quickly see the results from the decisions that I make in my role. For example, if I make a pricing action to alter the margin strategy for a particular hotel, I am able to instantly see how this has changed the customer demand and improved sales.

What makes you smile?

When we launch a brand new concept hotel, such as a TUI SENSATORI Resort, the lead time from briefing to the first guests arriving is often around 18 months and involves support from several departments such as Purchasing and Concept Implementation. Getting the positive customer comments through once the hotel has opened is always very rewarding and shows that all the hard work has paid off.

Why would you recommend TUI as a great place to work?

The open-plan office environment is great and promotes an approachable and friendly working  culture. Throughout the year there are so many different social events that you can get involved in too, ranging from summer parties, rounder’s tournaments and even a bake-off!
